Trump Texas Rallies: Lubbock, Waco Stops for Paxton
The Trump Texas rallies are coming back to the Lone Star State next week, with President Donald Trump set to campaign for Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton in a race polls show is a dead heat.
Republican National Committee officials confirmed the president will arrive on Tuesday, holding an event in Lubbock at 2:30 p.m. and another in Waco at 6 p.m., with Paxton appearing alongside him at both stops, according to FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth.
Tight Race Draws Trump Back
The Senate contest pits Paxton, the Texas attorney general, against Democrat James Talarico for the seat long held by John Cornyn. The race has become one of the most competitive in the country ahead of the Nov. 3 midterms, with recent polling showing the candidates running nearly even and the Cook Political Report rating it a toss-up since August.
Latest Stop in a Busy Midterm Push
The visit would mark Trump’s latest trip to Texas during an aggressive midterm campaign push. He rallied with Paxton in San Antonio on Oct. 7 — his third visit to the state in a month — and told reporters on Oct. 15 that he would return if needed, saying: “I’ll go back. If it’s necessary I’ll go back.”
Paxton won the Republican nomination after defeating Cornyn in the runoff earlier this year, following Trump’s endorsement. A Paxton loss on Nov. 3 would complicate Republican efforts to keep their slim Senate majority.
