Katie Zacharia Farewell: Praises Trump After Ouster

The katie zacharia farewell broke her silence hours after she left the White House on Friday, just five days into the press secretary job. In a post on X, she heaped praise on President Donald Trump, calling him “a kind, wonderful, gracious, thoughtful, enthusiastic, and hardworking man” and adding that “it was an honor to work for him.”

Her message included a photo of herself smiling beside Trump as he sat at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, with a map on the desk whose details were blurred out. The post had drawn more than 7 million views by Saturday morning.

The Swift Exit

Zacharia’s departure capped a turbulent week. Trump named the 41-year-old conservative commentator as Karoline Leavitt’s successor on Oct. 12. Her first and only briefing, on Oct. 13, ran about 14 minutes, with only three questions taken from conservative-leaning outlets.

Trouble deepened after the briefing. Asked where she had passed the bar, she appeared to say she had done so after moving to China. She later acknowledged she had failed the California bar exam and is not licensed to practice law, after previously describing herself as an attorney.

Trump’s “Reconsider” Remark

On Oct. 16, Trump publicly suggested the job might not be right for her. “I said to Katie, ‘You know, you don’t have to do this if you don’t want to,'” he told reporters, saying she had been treated “very rough” and “nastily” by the media. “Honestly, if I were you, I’d reconsider.”

The Wall Street Journal reported that Zacharia was in a meeting with some of its journalists in her White House office when Jason Miller, a senior Trump adviser, knocked and said Vice President JD Vance wanted to speak with her; she excused herself and never returned. Fox News, citing unnamed officials, reported she was “transitioning out” of the role. Trump insisted he had not fired her and that the decision was hers.

In a statement to the Journal, Zacharia said she had done “everything in my power to effectuate a briefing in the limited time and information I had,” adding that her goal had been “to serve President Trump and the American people to the best of my ability.”

A Record Short Stint

The five-day tenure is even shorter than Anthony Scaramucci’s 11 days as White House communications director in 2017, a record for short-lived Trump-era spokespersons.
