Jalen Hurts Blood Clot: Eagles QB Out vs Panthers

The jalen hurts blood clot diagnosis is the latest blow in a brutal stretch for Philadelphia. The Eagles quarterback was diagnosed with a superficial blood clot on October 15 and has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers — and he could miss several more weeks.

Hurts is the most prominent name on an Eagles injury report that swelled to 24 names on October 15 — nearly half of the team’s 53-man roster. Even excluding the four players on injured reserve, close to 40% of the roster is dealing with injuries.

A Week From Hell, Continued

Left tackle Jordan Mailata had already dubbed the previous stretch “a week from hell” after Lane Johnson’s retirement, Cam Jurgens’ trade to Baltimore, and injuries that kept Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith out of the October 11 loss to Jacksonville, 19-17.

The Hurts news makes that look optimistic. “I might have jumped the gun on that one,” Mailata said with a laugh. “Holy cow. Again, it’s the NFL, man. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.”

What It Means for the Season

Losing a franchise quarterback for any stretch is a season-altering event, and the timing could hardly be worse: the Eagles are navigating a crowded NFC race with a roster already held together by tape.

Philadelphia has not said who will start in Hurts’ place on Sunday. The team will hope the clot resolves quickly — but blood clots demand caution, and the Eagles have given no timeline beyond ruling him out for the Panthers game.
