X Files Reboot: Ryan Coogler Revives Classic for Disney+
The x files reboot is officially moving forward at Disney+, which announced Wednesday that “Sinners” director Ryan Coogler will bring the paranormal classic back as a new series for the streaming platform.
Coogler — also known for “Creed” and the “Black Panther” films — wrote, directed and produced a pilot that Disney bought for its streamer. Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler will step into the lead FBI agent roles, succeeding Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, the characters made famous by Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny.
Honoring the Original’s Legacy
The original series, created by Chris Carter, ran nine seasons from 1993 to 2002 and returned for two revival seasons in 2016-2018, becoming one of television’s defining sci-fi franchises.
In a Disney statement, Coogler said “what Chris Carter created is special,” adding that the team wanted to honor what made the original connect with viewers while finding its own way into that world.
A New Era for the Truth
Handing the badge to Patel and Deadwyler signals a fresh take rather than a nostalgia retread. With Coogler’s track record of breathing new life into legacy properties, the reboot arrives with serious creative weight behind it — and the truth, it seems, is still out there.
