Trump Husted Body Comments Spark Ohio GOP Buzz
The trump husted body comments took on a life of their own on Sunday, a day after President Donald Trump offered his latest appraisal of Ohio Sen. Jon Husted’s muscular build — and Ohio Republicans were happy to keep the joke going.
At a GOP hog roast in rural western Darke County, where about 300 people dined on barbecue, the president’s fixation on Husted’s physique had already become a running gag. Husted himself played along. “I know the president’s been talking about me as a football player and a few other things these days,” the senator told the crowd to knowing laughs.
Trump’s Latest Appraisal
Trump’s newest comments came during a Saturday rally in northern Kentucky, just across the river from Ohio. There he described giving the senator a once-over — his shoulders, feet, hands and jawline — and said patting Husted on the shoulder felt “like a piece of steel,” joking he was “still recovering.”
The remarks echoed an earlier rally in Youngstown, Ohio, where Trump said he had only just learned that Husted was a standout college football player. Husted played defensive back for the University of Dayton team that won the Division III national title in 1989.
A “Central Casting” Pattern
Trump has long commented on the looks of the people around him in politics, singling out those who impress him as “central casting.” But the observations have grown more frequent in recent days, and none has drawn as much airtime as his praise for Husted.
The senator is leaning into it. At the hog roast, he drew on his football past to rally Republicans for the “fourth quarter” of his election fight against Democrat Sherrod Brown, one of the country’s most competitive Senate races.
Moreno Joins In
Ohio’s other Republican senator, Bernie Moreno — who defeated Brown two years ago — made the most direct reference to Trump’s commentary at the gathering. Asked about it, Moreno quipped: “I will not comment on his anatomy.”
