Trump Graham Tele-Rally: Phone Push for SC Senate Seat

The trump graham tele-rally brought the president’s voice directly to South Carolina voters Thursday night, as Donald Trump headlined a telephone rally for interim Sen. Darline Graham’s bid to keep her U.S. Senate seat.

Voters dialed in to the call, which began around 6 p.m., as Trump urged supporters to turn out with early voting about to begin.

Praise for Graham, Attacks on Andrews

Trump called the late Sen. Lindsey Graham “incredible” and said he was “so proud” of his sister Darline, who was appointed to fill the seat after Lindsey Graham’s death this summer.

The president attacked Democratic challenger Annie Andrews, a Charleston physician, as “a radical left lunatic,” and framed the race as critical with the midterms approaching.

Also joining the call were South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, the GOP gubernatorial nominee, and Jenny Costa Honeycutt, the Republican nominee to replace outgoing Rep. Nancy Mace in the coastal 1st District.

A Tightening Race

The South Carolina contest has grown unexpectedly competitive. A September Trafalgar Group poll showed Graham leading Andrews by a single point, 43% to 42%, and the Senate Republican super PAC has poured $5 million into the race in its closing weeks.

Graham won a special GOP primary earlier this year with Trump’s endorsement, defeating Rep. Ralph Norman in an August runoff. Early voting runs October 19 through October 31.

Trump is also expected back in South Carolina for an in-person rally in Clemson on October 21.
