Trump Approval Rating Record Low: Dems Lead House Vote

The trump approval rating record low comes with a new warning sign for Republicans: registered voters now favor Democrats by five points on the question of which party they want to win House elections this fall, according to the latest Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll released this weekend.

The poll puts Trump’s overall approval at 37%, down from 39% in February, while his disapproval has climbed to 62% — a record high across his two terms in office. The five-point Democratic edge on the House ballot is up from a two-point lead in both February and October.

Democrats’ House Ballot Edge Grows

The poll shows the Democratic advantage stretching to nine points among voters who say they are absolutely certain to cast a ballot, landing with just over two weeks until the November 3 midterms decide control of the House and Senate.

Democrats are also far more likely than Republicans to say voting this fall matters more than previous midterms — 73% compared with 52%.

Record-High Disapproval

The president’s worst ratings came on the cost of living, disapproved of by 76% against 23% who approve, and on his handling of the war with Iran, disapproved of by 66% to 32%. Two-thirds of Americans now say the country is headed in the wrong direction.

Immigration remains a weak spot: 40% approve of his handling of immigration overall while 59% disapprove. Border security is his strongest issue, at 45% approve to 56% disapprove.

What Voters Reject

Majorities oppose several of the president’s signature moves, including ending birthright citizenship, cutting federal funding for medical research, increasing defense spending, and ending temporary legal status for migrants from war-torn countries.

The poll also found that about seven in 10 Americans say Trump is not honest and trustworthy, and roughly six in 10 say he does not have the mental sharpness to serve effectively as president.
