Travis Hunter Makes History: TD Catch and INT vs Texans
The travis hunter history-making performance came in defeat Sunday, as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ two-way star became the first NFL player since 2002 to catch a touchdown pass and record an interception in the same game.
Hunter pulled off the rare double in the Jaguars’ 34-31 loss to the Houston Texans at Wembley Stadium in London, only to watch kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn drill a 49-yard field goal as time expired to decide it.
A Fourth-Quarter Double
Hunter’s touchdown came with 11:30 left in the fourth quarter — a seven-yard strike from Trevor Lawrence that capped a nine-play, 61-yard drive and cut Houston’s lead to 31-28. It was Hunter’s first touchdown catch of the season.
On the Texans’ very next possession, Hunter switched back to defense and stepped in front of a C.J. Stroud pass in the end zone with under four minutes remaining, wiping out what could have been a game-clinching Texans touchdown.
Hunter finished with four receptions on four targets for 59 yards on offense, plus three tackles and the interception — his second pick of the season — on defense.
Rare Company
The feat puts Hunter in some of the most exclusive company in league history. Hall of Famer Brian Dawkins was the last player to do it, for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2002 — coincidentally against the same Texans franchise, then in its first year of existence. Hunter is only the third player since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger to accomplish the double in a regular-season game, joining Dawkins and Roy Green (1981).
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 draft, Hunter has come on strong in his sophomore campaign after a slow rookie season cut short by a knee injury, with the Jaguars steadily expanding his two-way role during their annual London stay.
The Game Around Him
The ending overshadowed several other milestones. Jaguars kicker Cam Little tied the game at 31-31 with 1:55 left on a 60-yard field goal — the longest ever converted in a London NFL game — after coach Liam Coen elected to go for the tie. Stroud then marched Houston into range for the winner.
The loss dropped Jacksonville to 4-2 while lifting Houston to 2-4, giving the Texans renewed life in the AFC South race.
