NFL Week 6: Caleb Williams Shines in Return From Injury

The NFL Week 6 Sunday slate belonged to returning quarterbacks, with Chicago’s Caleb Williams putting on a show in his first start since a Week 2 hamstring injury. Williams carved up the Atlanta Falcons in a 31-7 Bears win, while Giants running back Cam Skattebo lost his grip on the starting job after another fumble-plagued stretch.

Williams Shines in Return

Williams, sidelined since a Sept. 20 loss to Minnesota — an injury he later described as a “pretty serious” hamstring tear — came back firing. He opened the game with a 10-play, 67-yard drive capped by a 14-yard touchdown pass to tight end Colston Loveland, then led another scoring drive to stake the Bears to a 14-0 lead. He completed his first 10 passes and finished the first half 19-of-22 for 197 yards and a score as Chicago went up 21-7 at the break.

The 14-yard strike to Loveland was the 50th touchdown pass of Williams’ career, making him only the third quarterback in NFL history to reach 50 career touchdowns with 15 or fewer interceptions, alongside Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. Chicago went 2-1 in his absence behind Case Keenum and Tyson Bagent; running back D’Andre Swift added two first-half touchdowns after the Bears recovered a muffed Falcons punt.

Skattebo Benched Amid Fumbles

In New York, Cam Skattebo did not record a single touch in the first half against the Saints, continuing a brutal run for the Giants back. Skattebo has fumbled in four of five games this season, including one in Week 5 that nearly cost the Giants a win — a game that ended in a tie. Reports ahead of Sunday indicated the Giants planned to give veteran Najee Harris a larger role, with Harris jumping Skattebo on the depth chart.

Around the League

Eagles receiver A.J. Brown returned from injured reserve (ankle) to face the Jets, while Philadelphia and Baltimore were without their starting quarterbacks — Jalen Hurts landed on injured reserve with a blood clot in his leg, and Lamar Jackson remains out with an ankle issue. Tyler Warren and Quinshon Judkins were inactive, Saquon Barkley missed a second straight week while DeVonta Smith returned, and the Bengals, Lions, Dolphins and Vikings were on byes. Earlier Sunday, the Texans took on the Jaguars at Wembley Stadium in London.
