Jon Gosselin Defends Collin After Memoir Release

Jon Gosselin has broken his silence on son Collin’s bombshell memoir, and the former reality star did not hold back. In a statement to Us Weekly on Thursday, the 49-year-old said he could not be prouder of the 22-year-old’s “heartbreaking memoir” and its mission to help other victims of abuse.

Jon said his son has been evaluated by multiple independent psychiatrists and that the claim is categorically untrue, adding that repeating it damages Collin’s reputation, credibility and future.

A Warning Over the “Mentally Ill” Label

Jon’s statement was aimed at the narrative that Collin is mentally ill, a characterization Kate Gosselin has advanced for years and repeated again this week. Jon declared that the days of using mental health claims to discredit and silence his son are over.

His representative, Adriane Schwartz, said Jon had stayed quiet to give Collin space to tell his story in his own voice, adding that he fully supports his son and stands firmly beside him.

Kate’s TikTok Response

Kate Gosselin, 51, reacted to the memoir’s release Tuesday with a comment on TikTok suggesting that people who understand mental illness would recognize what she described as really going on, and she has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

What the Memoir Alleges

“In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood,” released Tuesday, alleges years of physical and emotional abuse by Kate, including claims that Collin was confined in a small holding cell for two years before being sent to a mental-health facility at age 12 in 2016 and isolated from his siblings. He says she visited him once and told him he had broken the family.

Jon co-starred with Kate and their eight children in the hit TLC series “Jon & Kate Plus 8.”
