Batman Part II: Soderbergh to Finish Filming
The batman part ii soderbergh takeover will rescue the troubled production: Steven Soderbergh has agreed to step in and complete principal photography on The Batman Part II while director Matt Reeves tends to a family matter, a plan first reported by Deadline and backed by DC Studios.
Reeves is not leaving the film. After the news broke Thursday, he wrote on X: “Just to be clear, I am not leaving The Batman Part II,” adding that he was grateful to Soderbergh for helping him finish principal photography during a challenging time.
Why Reeves Stepped Away
Production was paused earlier this month when Reeves left the set to deal with what has been described as a sensitive family matter. The studio has disclosed no further details, and colleagues at Warner Bros. and DC Studios have publicly rallied around the director.
Second-unit filming reportedly resumed in London on Monday, but completing the remaining principal photography without a director on set was not viable — prompting Soderbergh’s offer.
How the Two Directors Will Work Together
Soderbergh, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind Ocean’s Eleven and Traffic, approached Reeves himself as an admirer of his work. He praised Reeves’ direction of the 2022 original and said his goal is to generate footage that blends seamlessly with what has already been shot so Reeves can properly finish the film.
Under the plan, Soderbergh will work in London with the cast and crew while Reeves collaborates from Los Angeles, remaining in close contact through the rest of the shoot. Reeves is expected to take a more hands-on role once the film moves into post-production.
The sequel is said to be about two-thirds finished. It has weathered multiple delays — pushed from earlier dates to its current February 18, 2028 release — and stars Robert Pattinson returning as Bruce Wayne. The 2022 film grossed $772.3 million worldwide and spawned the HBO spinoff The Penguin.
