AP-NORC Poll: Most Voters Say Trump Falling Short
The ap-norc poll released Thursday delivers a blunt warning to President Donald Trump and his party: a strong majority of voters believes he is falling short both at home and abroad, and they want major change in the upcoming midterm elections.
Conducted less than four weeks before Election Day by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, the survey finds Democratic voters more enthusiastic about casting a ballot than Republicans. More voters say they want Democrats to take control of Congress, and voters overall hold a more negative view of the Republican Party.
Economy and Iran War Top Voters’ Concerns
About 8 in 10 voters say the economy or the cost of living ranks among their top issues for the upcoming election. Roughly two-thirds point to healthcare and the war in Iran. By contrast, issues where Trump traditionally polls better — such as immigration and crime — rank lower on voters’ priority lists.
The findings sketch a difficult landscape for Republicans, who are holding onto control of Congress while weighed down by an unpopular war with Iran and surging prices at home.
Democrats More Motivated to Vote
The enthusiasm gap is another warning sign for the GOP. Democratic voters show notably stronger motivation to turn out than their Republican counterparts, and overall voter intent is running high: about two-thirds of registered voters call voting in the November midterms “extremely” important, with roughly two in ten more calling it “very” important.
