Alaska Rally: Trump, Sullivan Say Iran War Worth the Cost

The alaska rally iran war comments drew national attention this week, as President Donald Trump and Sen. Dan Sullivan told supporters in Wasilla that the eight-month war with Iran is worth the cost to Americans.

Trump headlined the Tuesday rally to boost Sullivan’s re-election bid against Democrat Mary Peltola, three weeks before the November 3 midterms. On Iran, the president insisted Tehran “will not have a nuclear weapon” and predicted the war would “end very soon” — adding that when it does, “your prices are going to come tumbling down.”

Sullivan: Middle East Conflict Is ‘Temporary’

Sullivan framed the war as a passing crisis. “The conflict in the Middle East is temporary,” the senator said, arguing that “the true forever war” is what he called the national Democrats’ war against Alaska, oil, gas and jobs.

Trump claimed the U.S. now controls the Strait of Hormuz, saying more oil is moving through the strait than before the war began. He offered no details on how the war would end.

The $2,000 Household Tab

The remarks land as a new Moody’s Analytics estimate puts the war’s cost to the average American household at about $2,000. Most of the tab comes from higher energy prices — gasoline around $4.35 a gallon and diesel above $6 — with higher interest rates and the cost of military operations making up the rest.

Trump has blamed elevated fuel costs partly on the war, and his administration struck a diesel supply deal with Russia this month aimed at lowering prices before the midterms.
