Academy Museum Gala 2026: Swift, Theron Dazzle

The Academy Museum Gala 2026 delivered Hollywood’s glittering awards-season opening night. Stars gathered at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles on October 17 for the sixth annual fundraiser — often called the “Met Gala of the West” — headlined by Taylor Swift’s long-awaited gala debut.

Swift’s Gala Debut and Closing Performance

Swift arrived solo — her husband Travis Kelce stayed behind to prepare for the Kansas City Chiefs’ October 18 game against the Los Angeles Chargers — in a custom ice-blue strapless Dior gown with a crystal-embellished bodice, a beaded bow and a floor-grazing pleated skirt. She completed the look with Chopard diamonds, Aquazzura heels and pale pink lipstick, wearing her newly short hair in soft curls.

The museum had announced Swift as the evening’s musical performer, with Academy Museum director Amy Homma saying the institution was “thrilled to welcome her” and looked forward to “her performance to close a wonderful evening” honoring three film figures and supporting the museum’s mission to celebrate and preserve cinema.

Icon, Vantage and Luminary Honors

The evening’s centerpiece was the presentation of three awards recognizing major industry contributions. Charlize Theron received the Icon Award for a career of global impact, accepting in a sheer black Tom Ford gown with sequin and gemstone embellishments.

Colman Domingo was presented with the Vantage Award, while legendary filmmaker and composer John Carpenter accepted the Luminary Award. Co-chairs Steven Spielberg and Tom Ford hosted the night’s festivities.

A Parade of A-List Arrivals

The red carpet drew an extraordinary roster of talent: Kim Kardashian, Sabrina Carpenter, Demi Moore, Janelle Monáe, A$AP Rocky, Kristen Wiig, Pamela Anderson, Andrew Garfield, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried, Jessica Biel, Justin Timberlake, Sigourney Weaver, Kylie Minogue, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jessica Lange in a rare appearance, among others.

The private fundraiser — not televised or livestreamed — continues to cement its reputation as the unofficial kickoff to awards season, with speculation already swirling over whether Swift’s music will carry her into genuine Oscar contention.
