South Park Backrooms: New Episode Skips Trump
The south park backrooms episode gave President Donald Trump an unexpected break. Wednesday’s new installment, titled “You Like That On Your Face,” is the first in quite some time to have nothing to do with Trump or politics at all.
Instead, the Season 29 episode leans into online beauty culture. The kids of South Park grow obsessed with looksmaxxing — an internet trend built around maximizing physical attractiveness — and an app that rates their faces. Ike, Kyle’s younger brother, gets swept up in “aura battles” at school, while Wendy scrambles for anti-aging creams despite being a child.
Sephora Becomes a Backrooms Nightmare
The episode’s centerpiece is Sephora, where the girls crowd the makeup counters and staff slather creams on young faces. Behind the store, the familiar shop gives way to a creepy liminal space — a direct spoof of the Backrooms, the internet horror phenomenon built around endless yellow corridors. When Stan loses track of Wendy inside, his search through the unsettling halls turns the beauty trip into a nightmare.
Randy, Stan’s father, fares no better. After mocking the craze, he tries the same technology on himself, wanders into Sephora chasing a younger look, and ends up physically turned back into a child — forced to attend South Park Elementary all over again.
A Shift From Trump-Era Satire
The politics-free episode marks a notable turn. Beginning in 2025, South Park made Trump a recurring animated character with storylines in every episode for two straight seasons. The current season has pulled back: the premiere renamed the town South America, a jab at Trump’s recent habit of renaming places such as Lake Ontario to Lake America.
Kyle stands out as the episode’s lone voice of reason, pushing back against the fixation on looks and the companies feeding it. Cartman, meanwhile, lands the final verdict: anti-aging creams are bad for young people.
