Trump Approval Rating: 31% Record Low in Reuters Poll

The trump approval rating has slipped to a new record low, with just 31% of Americans saying they approve of President Donald Trump’s job performance in a Reuters/Ipsos poll that wrapped up Monday.

The four-day survey found approval down a single point from two weeks earlier — but it still marks the weakest reading for Trump across both of his terms in office. Rising gasoline prices are weighing heavily on voters just two weeks out from the November 3 midterm elections.

Democrats Open 12-Point Generic Ballot Lead

When asked which party they would back if congressional elections were held today, registered voters chose Democrats over Republicans 47% to 35%. That 12-point edge is the widest Democrats have enjoyed in the current election cycle, and it strengthens Democratic hopes of flipping the House and the Senate. Losing control of either chamber would make it far harder for Trump to advance his agenda during the final two years of his term.

The poll surveyed 1,679 adults nationwide, including 1,279 registered voters. Results carried a margin of error of two percentage points overall and three points among registered voters.

Gas Prices Loom Over the Midterms

Worries about high gasoline prices emerged as a major drag on the president, with the midterm fight expected to turn on household costs. Analysts caution that national generic-ballot numbers capture broad sentiment but miss the district-by-district battles that actually decide Congress — contests where Republicans hold built-in structural advantages.

With the midterm clock ticking, the White House faces a simple and punishing equation: costs at the pump are high, voters are watching, and the polling window is nearly closed.
