Kimberly Guilfoyle Lawsuit: Trump Donor Sues for Defamation
The kimberly guilfoyle lawsuit took a sharp turn Thursday as Kentucky attorney and former MAGA donor Eric Deters said he had filed a defamation suit against the former U.S. ambassador to Greece and her legal team. In a video released Thursday, Deters said he is seeking $1 million and a public admission that text messages released by Guilfoyle’s side are fake.
A $100,000 Amex Bill at the Center
The dispute traces back to a Wall Street Journal report that Guilfoyle asked Deters for money to cover her debts — a $100,000 American Express bill — shortly before her Senate confirmation hearing, allegedly promising to help him reach senior Trump administration officials in return. Deters declined to pay.
Guilfoyle and her attorneys have disputed his account, challenging the authenticity of the messages and saying Deters owed roughly $150,000 in unpaid fees for speaking engagements and consulting work. Deters rejects that claim, noting that the messages make no mention of any debt, and says he paid Guilfoyle about $300,000 over several years for appearances at Freedom Fest, a Kentucky conservative event he founded.
“Known Blackmailer” Claim Sparks the Suit
Deters says the suit targets two public statements by Guilfoyle’s side: the claim that the text messages were fabricated, and the description of him as a “known blackmailer.” He told CNN earlier in the week he had never blackmailed anyone in his life and planned to sue Guilfoyle, her lawyers, and their firm in Kentucky.
Guilfoyle resigned as ambassador to Greece earlier this week amid the controversy, ending a diplomatic tenure that had drawn Trump’s public displeasure after the president said he was unhappy with what he was reading about the allegations.
