RJ Mitte Death: Breaking Bad Star Dies at 34
The RJ Mitte death was confirmed on Monday, with the actor best known for playing Walter White Jr. on the acclaimed series Breaking Bad passing away at the age of 34.
Mitte died in Brownsville, Texas, according to his representatives and local authorities. The cause of death has not been officially confirmed, and an autopsy is expected to be conducted.
The Cameron County justice of the peace said Mitte was declared dead at his home at around 1:30 p.m. local time. Tributes from fans and fellow actors began pouring in within hours of the news breaking.
Remembering Walter White Jr.
Mitte rose to international recognition as the son of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White, appearing in all five seasons of Breaking Bad, a series widely regarded as one of television’s greatest dramas.
His portrayal of Walter White Jr., a teenager living with cerebral palsy, was praised for its authenticity. Mitte, who has cerebral palsy himself, brought lived experience to the role and helped present disability as part of everyday life rather than the sum of a character.
A Voice for Disability Inclusion
Off screen, he became an important advocate for disability awareness and inclusion in the entertainment industry, using his platform to push for better representation and opportunity.
Breaking Bad’s cultural footprint has only grown since its finale, finding new generations of viewers on streaming. For many, Mitte’s performance remains one of the show’s most human and grounded elements.
Details of memorial arrangements have not yet been announced. He is remembered by colleagues as a warm presence on set and by fans as a trailblazer who changed how disability appears on screen.
