Jalen Hurts Out for Season With Blood Clots

The Jalen Hurts blood clots situation has taken a serious turn, with the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and clots in both lungs. The Eagles and Hurts’ agent Nicole Lynn released a joint statement Monday confirming the diagnosis and the treatment plan — blood thinners — that keeps him away from football while it continues, and multiple reports say he will miss the rest of the 2026 season.

From a Leg Clot in London to a Season-Ending Diagnosis

Hurts was first diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in his left calf while the Eagles were in London for their October 11 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played in that 19-17 defeat, then further testing back home revealed the condition had escalated: a deep vein thrombosis plus bilateral pulmonary emboli, meaning clots in both lungs. The team placed him on injured reserve on Saturday, and backup Tanner McKee started Sunday’s 25-14 home loss to the Carolina Panthers — Philadelphia’s fourth straight defeat, dropping the Eagles to 2-4.

Stable, With a Strong Expected Recovery

The joint statement described the 28-year-old as clinically stable with no significant functional limitations, and said doctors expect a full recovery with no long-term effects. Because treatment involves anticoagulation, Hurts is barred from contact activities until he is off the medication — a course expected to take at least three months, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, which is why the rest of the season is likely gone.

The loss is a massive blow for Philadelphia. A three-time Pro Bowl selection and the MVP of Super Bowl LIX, Hurts has gone 59-28 as a starter since late in his 2020 rookie season, throwing for 18,824 yards with 118 touchdowns against 48 interceptions and adding 3,661 rushing yards and 64 scores. Through five starts this season he completed 57.8 percent of his passes for 933 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions.
