Trump Approval Rating Hits New Low: 33% in Post-ABC Poll

The trump approval rating new low is now official: President Donald Trump’s approval stands at just 33% among American adults, with 66% disapproving, in a new Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll released Sunday — the weakest showing of his presidency in the outlets’ polling.

The survey lands with the November 3 midterm elections barely two weeks away, and it carries more bad news for Republicans: voters now favor Democrats by eight points in the race for House control, and for the first time in more than a decade they trust Democrats more than Republicans on the economy.

A Record Low in Post-ABC Polling

Trump’s 33% approval is four points below the 37% he posted in the outlets’ April and July surveys, and eight points below where he stood a year ago. More than half of Americans — 52% — say they strongly disapprove of his performance.

Among likely voters, the numbers are only slightly better for the president: 38% approve and 62% disapprove.

Democrats Lead on the House and the Economy

Registered and likely voters prefer Democratic control of the House by eight points, up from a three-point Democratic edge in July. By 58% to 39%, registered voters say they would rather have a Democratic-led Congress acting as a check on Trump’s White House than a Republican one backing his agenda.

For the first time in over a decade, Democrats are seen as more trustworthy on the economy than Republicans, 40% to 33%. And 72% of Americans say the country is heading in the wrong direction, up five points since April.

The Iran War and the Cost of Living

The economy and the war with Iran dominate voters’ concerns. Roughly three in four Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the cost of living and inflation, and the poll shows respondents losing faith in the president as the economic fallout from the Iran war reaches household budgets — especially gasoline prices.

The findings mirror a Fox News poll released October 14, which also marked the lowest approval rating of Trump’s presidency in that network’s polling.
