Natalie Maines Trump Jab: White House Fires Back

The natalie maines trump feud has flared again, with the White House firing back at The Chicks frontwoman over an on-stage remark about the president.

During the band’s 20th-anniversary “Taking the Long Way” tour stop at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre this week, Maines revisited the 2003 controversy that once nearly sank the group’s country-music career — and turned it into a jab at the current president.

“We thought that was the worst it could get,” she told the crowd, before adding: “Now I’d give George (W.) Bush a big wet kiss.” Her explanation drew cheers from some and boos from others: she was now, she said, ashamed that the president of the United States was from the United States — a callback to the line that started it all.

A Familiar Feud

In 2003, performing in London on the eve of the Iraq War, Maines told an audience she was ashamed the president came from Texas. The fallout was swift and severe: radio boycotts, protests, fans destroying the band’s CDs, and death threats serious enough to require FBI intervention. The episode inspired the band’s hit “Not Ready to Make Nice” and the documentary “Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing.”

More than two decades later, Maines remains defiant. She told fans at the Beacon Theatre she would “never” submit to the “shut up and sing” brigade.

The White House Responds

The administration answered through a spokesperson in a statement to Fox News on Wednesday. “Natalie Maines is a despicable nobody who clearly suffers from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted her peanut-sized brain,” the spokesperson said.

The rebuke follows a familiar pattern: the White House used the same line in May after Maines posted a profanity-filled Instagram attack accusing Trump of undermining democracy. The band, for its part, has reportedly turned the latest lyric into tour merchandise.
